So you signed up for Google and found that every possible user name in the universe was taken. In a fit of desperation, you picked some weird, obscure, and embarrassing nickname. Like Snoodlepuppy.
Guess what? You are stuck with that name for the rest of your life. Or at least your account's life.
I figured this out when I was invited to Google Wave and somehow got stuck with that same username as my Google Wave address. Other people have the same problem, as you can see in this thread, but there doesn't seem to be any way around it.
Google knows about this problem, since they have a page posted here about it. Of course, they don't actually ANSWER the question.
